Q: What's this thing all about, anyway?
A: SOAK* is a weekend-long event in the spirit of Burning
Man for Oregon, the Northwest, and beyond. SOAK thrives on
attendee participation, self-expression and self-reliance. It is a vehicle for the community to celebrate together.
The event will feature music, art, performance, and a Saturday
night spectacle. This is a very DIY and "by you/for you" event -
it relies on you to make it happen, and it is centered on camping,
theme camp-driven entertainment.
SOAK* is a SELF-RELIANT LEAVE-NO-TRACE event: bring
everything you need, pack it in, and pack it out.
Q: Where is the event being held?
A: SOAK* is being held 10 miles east of Salem, on a 110-acre
private property. The property has a history of logging, and has
been in the owner's family since 1846. It is gorgeous and full
of meadows, ponds (including a 15ft deep swimming hole), wildlife
and trails. This is how we burn Northwest-style.
Address: 10425 Edmunson Dr SE, Salem, Oregon 97301
Directions:
From I-5, Take exit #256 Market St. NE
Turn onto Market so that you're heading East.

not go under the freeway) (0.5 mi)

names. (0.4 mi)
Curves sharp Right into 93rd Ave. SE (0.2 mi)
Curves Left into Edmunson Dr. SE
The property will be on your left hand side (turn after

at the gate. (0.6 mi)
(Note: Deschutes turns into 93rd SE which then turns into
Edmunson Dr SE. You don't actually leave the road - it just
changes names as it goes around the corners.)
Q: I bought tickets online, what do I bring?
A: Your ID is all you need, but bring a paper printout of your
order, if you think that might help.
Q: When can I show up and when does it end?
A: SOAK*2010 will open its gates on Thursday, June 24th at NOON,
and will wind down in the late morning of Sunday, June 27th.
The clean-up crew needs to be off the property by Sunday
sunset, and we ask that attendees either stay and assist
with clean-up or be on the road by 3:00pm.
GATE will be staffed from :
Thursday NOON to MIDNIGHT
Friday 9:00am to MIDNIGHT
Saturday 9:00am to MIDNIGHT
Event closes at 3:00pm on Sunday.
Do not arrive outside of these times, Parking protocol is not obvious,
especially in the dark, and you're going to need some guidance.
Whether or not you stay for site-wide clean-up, please do your part
and patrol your campsite and the grounds around it. LEAVE NO TRACE!
Q: Is there any public transportation?
A: No public transportation, but check the ride-share forum if you need a ride
or have room for passengers. Go to http://www.burningmanportland.com/
and Forums to find a ride.
Q: Are ins and outs allowed?
A: Yes, ins and outs are totally fine. Everybody gets a wristband
in exchange for their ticket, and must wear it AT ALL TIMES during
the event.
Q: Where am I supposed to sleep?
A: SOAK* is a weekend-long outdoor camping event, and you will
need to provide your own accommodations. There is plenty of flat
grassy meadow available to spread out your tarp. While we are very
much in support of car-camping, to us that means "sleeping in your
car". Please leave your car in parking area after you unpack your
gear. All parking is a stone's throw away. Please don't throw stones.
Q: Can I bring my RV / trailer / camper van?
A: Absolutely. Please let the Greeters help you get parked in the
right place when you arrive. Additionally, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let
us know ahead of time so we can keep a rough count of large vehicles
and plan for an appropriate place to put you.
Have a bus, RV or big vehicle you would like to bring?
Email placement.soak2010 @burningmanportland.com with the info.
Q: Are there going to be any bathrooms?
A: Gee we're glad you asked! Yes, we will have a porta-potties
placed around the property. And no, if it didn't come from your body,
you still can't put it in the pottie - please respect our vendor and
all of your neighbors by taking good care of the facilities. (And it
never hurts to bring extra one-ply toilet paper.)
Q: What do I have to bring? Can I buy stuff there?
A: There will be NO vending of any kind at SOAK*.
YOU MUST BRING EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO
SURVIVE FOR THE WEEKEND, INCLUDING WATER.
We're not going to be far from Salem, OR, and ins and outs are
allowed if you need to make a quick trip back to town for food
or propane. Bring plenty of lighting (lanterns, headlamps, flashlights,
glowsticks, whatever) and warm clothes for the chill that hits the
canyon at night. You will need to supply any power you need for
the event - there is no public grid.
Q: Techno sucks. Can I bring my own sound system?
A: Yes absolutely. We welcome your musical choice. But you're
definitely going to hear some techno. maybe some drum circles. And
all of the other noise that makes us a really interesting community.
If you decide to bring your own sound, please note that any system
over 100 watts (basically, anything bigger than a boombox) needs to
be registered with the event.
Please let portland @burningman.com know about the thump thump.
Q: Will there be garbage cans?
A: No, garbage cans will NOT be provided. This is a LEAVE NO TRACE
event - please ensure that you bring receptacles for garbage and
recycling, and that everything you bring in is brought right back
out with you. We want to hold future events here, and it's a beautiful
property that we want to respect. Besides, it sucks to ask other people
to clean up after you. (Don't forget: Altoids tins are still the best
portable ashtrays going.)
Q: Can my kids come? Will they see naked people?
A: Yes they can, and yes they might. We have Kids-Camp which
is a family friendly area you can camp in. Please be aware that
nudity and adult behavior may be visible during the event. We
will ask all camps with adult themes to post somebody at their
entrance, to prevent children from wandering in. But we can't
control everything, all we can do is tell you what you are likely
to encounter.
Q: What if I want to bring an Art Car?
A: Yes! We love art cars!
Please email placement.soak2010 @burningmanportland.com
and let us know what you plan on bringing before arriving.
Q: Fire good. What's the deal with fire?
Fire Art: All fire art and performance MUST be pre-registered
with our Fire Safety folks. Please contact us:
fire.soak2010 @burningmanportland.com
Firearms/Pyro: Prohibited. Leave it at home, even if it's licensed.
You don't need it, and we don't want to deal with it.
Q: Where's my ticket?
All tickets are "Will-Call" only, you will not receive a ticket by mail.
IMPORTANT NOTE: All attendees will be carded at the gate, and
must show proper identification (current valid driver's license,
state ID or Passport). If you are under 18 years of age, you MUST
be accompanied by a parent, guardian. Our staff is 100% volunteer
please don't heckle or ask to make special arrangements for you.
Q: Hey! I thought this was a gift economy! Why should I buy a ticket?
A: As much as we'd love to have everybody over for a crazy, fun
party, this event costs money. The property rental, insurance,
medical supplies, porta-potties, wood for the fire pit, art, flyers
and many other items ain't cheap. We rely on tickets to cover the
apply in order bring your canine. DO NOT BRING your dog without
prior approval. You will be refused at the gate if you show up
with a dog that is not approved.
Dog applications are now closed.
