Hi, I'm make the trip to BM from Portland for the first time. I know there are two main routes, the I-5 one and the one through Bend. They seem to MapQuest at about the same time though one is 100 miles shorter. Can anyone recommend or give insight into the best way?

Also of note... I'm taking a vehicle I've just done lots of repairs to and is running great but have never taken a long trip with. It seems the I-5 route has more "civilization" in case of breakdown. Also want to check out the hot springs!
