Carnaval in Austin has turned into the largest such even in the USA..now 6,000 strong. Live Brazilian carnaval music (tons o' drums), a very enthusiastic crowd, and amazing costumes combine to create Austin's best party of the year. Now the organizers have moved to Portland and are establishing a PNW front for the fantastic gathering. And what a way to escape the gray of the Portland winter...and another excuse to assemble the most creative costume you can think of.

Honestly, I can't recommend this event enough. It's awesome in Austin, and Portland has the creative wackiness necessary to make it awesome up north, as well.
